I'm honestly bored out of my mind. The sissy politics of F1 seem to have to outshone the action on track (a common problem in F1). What is your outlook for the rest of the season?
BQ: Will the trick diffusers ultimately bring downforce levels in high speed corners to a point where the FIA intended them not to be?|||remember in years past, the two top teams starting out the season strongest, separated the gap through development, not in a decade have such strong and well funded teams been in a position to play catchup with the leaders,
i think brawn and red bull will be handicapped (yeah only to a small degree) funds wise where as mclaren and ferrari have a long way to go and more than enough funds to get there,
so far i think this year has been better than last, and has the potential to be even better still,
as for the political hoopla, it only effects you if you let it, i personally think, as of now, that the FIA have ruled as i would have on every issue, if you don't read all the mud slinging and political trash you would only think that we have a great season going on|||I don't think it's too bad. It could have been a bit dull if Brawn completely dominated the field during every race. Right now, I'm expecting Redbull to fight back and there's even space for Toyota to finally get their first victory with a lot of luck. Maybe McLaren can pull off a late comeback a la Renault 2008.
It's true that there's the usual controversies but I think it will calm down a little bit after a while. I'm looking forward to Spain, wonder if the updates will re shuffle the pecking order.|||I agree with you that politics has taken priority over racing once again, and I have to admit that I've become embroiled in it, due to things happening within the sport that I strongly disagree with. As for the rest of the season, I really have no idea, the Brawn and Red Bull cars and driver's look genuinely good, but I can see the McLaren's and probably Ferrari coming back at them after mid season.
As for the diffusers, they are without doubt a benefit, but not the sole reason behind efficient downforce, look at the Red Bull.
The FIA make some strange decisions as we all know, ie. reduce downforce to make cars go slower, then give them back slick tyres to make them go quicker! Very strange!|||The racing in 2009 is vastly more exciting than 2008 allready. There have been one or two political problems which are all hapily now resolved, so the good racing can continue.|||Unless some teams catch Brawn it's just gonna be boring.
Loads of people are enjoying their dominance at the moment, but after a whole season they will have had more than enough.
It was so much better in my view last year when neither of the top two teams were perfect, and so there was no certainty as to who would come out on top either race.
It seems that the only drivers actually overtaking often are the drivers that have been put down the grid since last year, such as Lewis and Kimi, as the others just jump each other in pit stops, or go past when they make mistakes.
Hopefully everything will change in Spain, and we will be back to uncertainty and actual racing.
BQ:
Yes, I think you're right, the teams will just reinstate the sownforce levels slowly until they are pretty much the same as last year.|||Well the new two tier diffusers although completely legal do go against what the FIA was trying to achieve and that was to lower downforce levels and increase overtaking in the sport. The new diffusers cause a turbulence effect which creates "dirty air" behind the car so the following car has more trouble overtaking, while also providing downforce levels up near last years cars (this years cars are faster than last year).
As for the the comment about the FIA making strange decisions like lowering downforce and then adding slick tyres this is again another step to aid in overtaking as the higher levels of downforce creates more turbulence behind the cars where as slick tyres do not, so the slick tyres were simply added to make up for the lack of downforce and are an excellent idea. The is also why the new front ends are wider and the rears narrower. The front tyres are thinner than the rear which doesn't take a genius to realise will create more traction at the rear than at the front.
I think the season so far has been very exciting, im glad to see new faces up the front, including JB who i have long felt was an excellent driver stuck in a useless team. Its also fantastic to see the prancing horse finally not doing so well. However i anticipate a strong surge in the coming months from both mclaren who are already starting to show some promising signs, and also ferrari who simply have to many smart engineers and too much money not to have a competent car once they can work there problems out with KERS.
Actually KERS i feel is one of the more interesting things in formula 1 which a lot of teams seem to be against but i think it adds another layer to the sport and makes it more interesting to watch with some teams opting to run it and some not. Just look at what hamilton did in the bahrain GP when he shot up from 5th position to 2nd or 3rd in the first corner, assisted by KERS|||The season will likely improve as the field catchs up with the Brawn cars.
I couldn't agree more with the stupid politics of the sport 2009 is leading the way for that. We've had Hamilton DQ fo not telling the truth. What that has to do with where he finished I'll never understand at worst he was 4th.
The rediculously stupid rule book with a hole the size of (something very big) in it.
And no the diffusers won't make for that high of speeds. The slicks and giant front wings give plenty of downforce anyways.
Can't Bernie and Max go buy a remote island somewhere and leave the sport alone!|||The season has been fantastic so far! Far better than 2008. We have new teams running up front, drivers who have never been title contenders suddenly running up front, we have the Ferrari/McLaren mystique shattered. BMW is getting smoked by the likes of Force India, and we still don't know where Alonso will end up next year. Granted, I don't think the driver's championship battle will come down to the last turn of the last race of the season, but I think we will have more excitement throughout the entire year, especially if Ferrari and McLaren suddenly find speed again, making it a 4 team battle for the constructor's championship.|||A Button domination
I never thought I would be disappointed after saying that
This year has been extremely boring
the FIA needs to loosen up
I think it will be this way until we hit Spa
BQ: Yup, it just seems like that always happens in the FIA, huh?|||I'm also looking forward to spain this weekend. I think this season is going well and I can't wait for Lewis to start winning races.
