How does a F1 driver become world champion? Is it by scoring enough points or by winning most races?

I understand that the F1 rules have changed, but the commentators still seem to be talking about scoring the most points. This would allow someone who always came second to win the championship. So, Who wins, point scorers or race winners?|||Its points, because the championship doesn't reward the fastest driver it rewards the most CONSISTENTLY HIGH SCORING driver - hence you can win the championship but not win a single race.|||It is the points scorers that count for the championship. So, it is theoretically possible for someone to win the championship without actually winning a race. I don't know that has actually ever happened before, although it has been close to that before - in 1982, Keke Rosberg took the title and only won 1 race that year - he scored the most points that year so he won.

Second (or even third) placings can also come into the equation should two drivers finish the season with equal points. Then it goes to who got the most 2nd places (or 3rd places etc should the second places be equal also).

Personally, I like that system. There was talk of changing it, but I think it needs left alone.|||One who completes the season with the highest number of points will be the F1 world champion. But if 2 drivers scores the same point the F1 champion will be decided who among them has won the most individual races, that is, who finished first. If it is a tie, then the second position will be considered and it goes on.|||The teams manage to overthrow the decision to decide the championship on points at the start of the year. Unfortunately for Button, it's only points that count.|||This season, it will be decided by points accumulated.

They are reviewing the system for the 2010 season, but nothing has been confirmed as of now.|||Overall its points because the person with the most points at the end is the champ but to get that amount of points you need to win lots of races so a bit if both!|||To become F1 champion you must have the most points at the end of the sesion. Number of wins does not count, but ussualy the champion has the muchest wins in a season|||its points but if 2 drivers r equal after the last race they will see who won the most races|||this year it's points next year it will be by races|||scoring points applying to the place they came in the race.|||points|||they both count points and races
